MIS 400 INTERNSHIP COURSE
Students who complete their compulsory internship will register for MIS 400 - Internship course in their next semester. The grade for this course will be P at the end of the semester.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE STARTING THE INTERNSHIP?
A student who has reached an agreement with a company for their mandatory internship fills out the "Internship Application Form [TR] / [EN]" and the “Ek-1-BÜ Öğrenci Staj Bilgi Formunu” and has it approved with a signature and stamp by the institution where they will be doing their internship.
Internship Application Form: This is the form containing information about the internship the student will undertake. It is approved by the student's academic advisor.
Ek-1-BÜ Öğrenci Staj Bilgi Formu: According to the Social Security and General Health Insurance Law, our University is obliged to provide "Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance" for students doing internships. Based on the Ek 1 form, the University's Accounting Affairs Unit processes the students' insurance registration and pays the insurance premiums during the internship period. (To avoid misunderstandings, let us remind you that this insurance is not for Retirement or General Health Insurance.)
Students who will not receive a salary for their internships can write "ödenmeyecek" (will not be paid) on the Ek-1-BÜ Öğrenci Staj Bilgi Formu.
The ".pdf" format of the Internship Application Form, filled out by the student and signed by the institution where the internship will take place, is sent to the student's academic advisor for approval, while the Ek-1-BÜ Öğrenci Staj Bilgi Formu is sent to the Vice Head of the Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ziya Perdahçı (ziya.perdahci@bogazici.edu.tr), for approval.
Students who want to start their internship during the final exam period are obliged to send their final exam schedules to stajmis@bogazici.edu.tr in addition to these forms.
The signed and approved forms must be sent to the email address stajmis@bogazici.edu.tr at least 1 business day and at most 1 week before the internship start date. Since the students' insurance registration will be processed with these forms, forms sent after the internship start date will not be accepted.
After the approval processes are completed, the University's Accounting Affairs sends the student a document addressed to the institution where the student will be doing their internship, stating that Boğaziçi University has initiated work accident and occupational disease insurance and will pay the premium. The student is obliged to submit this document to the institution/company where they will be doing their internship.
"INTERNSHIP IS MANDATORY" LETTER
Some companies request a letter from students stating that the internship is a mandatory requirement for graduation. Students forward this request to the Department Internship Coordinator, who has this letter signed by the Head of the Department or their assistants and then forwards it to the student.
WHAT TO DO AFTER THE INTERNSHIP IS COMPLETED?
The student must write the draft of their internship report in English, in MS-Word format on a computer. Documents such as pictures, diagrams, tables, etc., to be included in the report should preferably be scanned and added to the report.
At the end of the internship, the student sends an official letter from the institution, written on company letterhead and stamped, to the University's Accounting Affairs Directorate (hesap@bogazici.edu.tr) stating the dates they worked and the number of business days. It is the student's responsibility to submit and follow up on this letter.
If this letter is not submitted and followed up on after the internship, the MIS department is not responsible for any debt that the social security institution may issue to the intern for the period exceeding the internship.
The student must send their Internship Report and other required documents to the email address stajmis@bogazici.edu.tr by November 1st for the Fall semester and by April 1st for the Spring semester at the latest. For each business day the internship report is submitted late, 1 day will be deducted from the internship duration.
Students who have reached the stage of preparing their internship report can benefit from the internship report preparation and submission file.
